DECEMBER 2020

EMERGENSEA GIRLS

Who are we?

We're Charlie and Rosie, two Emergency Medicine Doctors based in Exeter, UK. We've decided to switch our scrubs for the sea, salt and swell of the Atlantic Ocean. What we lack in rowing experience, we more than make up for in determination...

What are we planning?

We are taking part in the 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, the world's toughest rowing race. We have set our sights on breaking the women's pairs world record of 50 days.

Why are we doing it?

It is becoming increasingly recognised that women can equal, or even outperform men in many ultra-endurance events. The question is why. Using ourselves as subjects, we are hoping to further understanding of the physiological and psychological reasons for this. We also can't wait to push our own personal boundaries and promote female participation in sport.

Who are we supporting?

We have chosen to support 3 charities that we work closely with and feel are of high significance for the people of Devon - the Devon Air Ambulance, RNLI and RD&E Charity. We love the idea that our charities encompass savings lives by air, land and sea.
